Spas & Hot Tubs

spas and hot tubsI wanted to surprise my wife Jane for her birthday and I started looking at spas and hot tubs so that I could buy all of the equipment and install it on deck while she was away at an all girls weekend – especially arranged to get her out of the house. Jane has always loved spas and hot tubs and has wanted one for years in the privacy of her own home so this is the year spas and hot tubs here we come but first I need to know everything about spas and hot tubs before I buy anything to make sure that I cover all bases.

What you need for spas and hot tubs:

# 1 for spas and hot tubs – you need to have a filter to keep the water clean in the spas and hot tubs. Make sure that the filter that you buy is the right one for the amount of water that you are aiming to filter. If its not you will have problems with water cleanliness. Also make sure that you buy a filter that is strong as this is a piece of equipment that is used constantly and you don’t want it to break down due to flimsy construction;

# 2 for spas and hot tubs – these are kind of fun but you can purchase multi-colored LED lights for spas and hot tubs so that you can have some fun with the lights creating different atmospheres;

# 3 for spas and hot tubs – you will need a water pump to move the water around. These come in different sizes and pump different volumes accordingly. Once you know what size spas and hot tubs that you will need to pump water for then you will be able to work out the ideal pump for you and your water pumping needs;

# 4 for spas and hot tubs – check and measure the space that you have available before deciding on the size of the spas and hot tubs that you will buy for your home. We have quite a large space and a family that loves to soak so we decided on a deluxe 8 seater so that all of the family can enjoy melting the aches and pains away after a hard days school or work;

# 5 for spas and hot tubs – you need a cover for when the spas and hot tubs are not in use especially if like us it will be installed in the open air. This cuts down on cleaning time from airborne dust and dirt as well as little water critters that may want to take up residence. Friends left theirs uncovered and ended up with thousands of tadpoles after not using it for a while, very messy;

# 6 for spas and hot tubs – you need a transformer to ensure that your electrical supply is safe and stable;

# 7 for spas and hot tubs – if you live in an area that gets pretty cold and want to use your spas and hot tubs all year round then you need to buy and install a heating element or water heater. Again remember to make sure that the size that you buy is appropriate to the amount of water that you will need to heat;

# 8 for spas and hot tubs – you need to have a controller to be able to manage the different settings that you would like added to your spas and hot tubs. I am going to get an electrician to do this and all of the electrical wiring it’s beyond my capabilities and I am always very careful with electricity especially when it is near water. I am also conscious that this needs to be up to code;

# 9 for spas and hot tubs – make sure that all of the parts and all the work that you have done has a good warranty attached. This is just in case you do have any problems and it will probably save you money in the long term;

# 10 for spas and hot tubs – time is the most important thing you need when you own spas and hot tubs. I know many folks that have them installed at their houses but they are always too busy too use them and I cant see the point. Make time to enjoy yourself if you are going to go to the trouble of installing it – you want to use it you know you do.

So I shopped for all the things I would need and stored them at our neighbors place, teed up a time for the electrician to be there and just had to wait for Jane to take off for the weekend before I could start. She nearly cancelled the trip at the last minute and I could see all of my hard work going down he drain.

But she left and we sawed hammered and admired our work and we were finished before she arrived back from the weekend – but not much! It was dark when she arrived and I had candles around the deck, champagne chilling in an ice bucket and a big bunch of flowers ready for her to say happy birthday. I greeted Jane at the door and then escorted her out to the deck, I told her that she had always loved spas and hot tubs and now she had one of her own. She cried with joy, hugged me then we both hopped in to enjoy the first of many fun and relaxing evenings.
